I was wrong about Donald Trump. He wasn’t serious about running last time so I thought why now?  I didn’t see him setting aside his lucrative interests, or putting up with the attacks, or doing well in the polls.  Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.

The fact that he is now leading the field in most polls has many people confused, so let’s take a closer look and see if we can see what is going on.  What is good, bad, and instructive about Donald Trump?

GOOD –He is a real person.  He is paying for this with his own money so he is beholding to no one.  We get frustrated with money in politics, but these guys need to raise huge money and even some good politicians ‘consider’ where that money is coming from. None of that with Trump.  He can just call things the way he see’s them.

—He is pro-American.  After 6 years of watching Obama deny American exceptionalism, apologize to the world, and push and agenda that hurts our own people and rewards illegals and even our enemies, this is refreshing.

—He doesn’t care what people think.  He understands the folly (and danger) of political correctness and he is not buying it.  He does what he thinks is right and lets the chips fall where they may.  Most politicians spend so much time worrying about media and donor reaction that they can’t make a decision and nothing gets done.

—He identifies problems. He understands that DC is broken and Obama is not the only problem. He says things that other politicians will not say, attacking the establishment of both parties.  He is a person that will play offense in a town that spends all it’s time reacting to things and making decisions via polls.

–He offers solutions.  As a man that has spent his life ‘getting things done’ he understands that you can’t just talk about problems, you have to fix them.

–He is making all the right people very nervous.  China, Mexico, Iran, Isis, moderate republicans, republican leadership in Congress, illegals, Reince Priebus:)

As you can see by this list, Donald Trump is saying things and doing things that have not been done since Reagan was president.  The huge conservative base in this country is being energized and that is why he is leading in all the polls….

BUT, he is not going to stay there because he has a few problems.  I remember when he was first asked about running he said he would see who else ran and if he didn’t like the field he would run. Well, this is the best field of republican candidates ever assembled, so what is not to like?  The fact that he still entered the race was the first red flag I noticed.  There are more:

BAD —He is not a conservative and his positions on the issues are all over the place and have been for years.  He has also given large sums of money to democrats (including Hillary)

—He doesn’t live in the real world. He has an out of control ego. He is used to being in control of everything and have people jump when he speaks or they get ‘fired’.  That is not how politics works and not the best personality for us to hire as our #1 public servant.

—He is not presidential.  As we have already seen on the campaign trail, Donald Trump holds grudges, uses his power and money to influence people, and likes to call people who cross him nasty names.  Just today, fellow candidate Lindsey Graham reacting to his treatment of John McCain called him a “jackass” and Trump responded by giving out Graham’s cell # to a national audience.  I would not call that presidential.

—He is a narcissist, which also explains some of the above behavior.  I have been very hard on Obama for this so I can’t give Trump a pass for the same tendencies.  That is why he can’t bring himself to apologize for insulting McCain this week – and he should. It is also why he entered the race for president.  I believe he loves this country and believes he can fix some things but ultimately everything that Trump does will always be about Trump.  And we have seen enough of that with our current president, haven’t we?

—He shoots from the hip.  He likes to express his opinion and often does not think before he speaks.  That can get you into lots of trouble these days.  Some will say it is because he is not a polished candidate.  Well, neither are Ben Carson or Carly Fiorina and they don’t have that problem.

So what are we learning as we watch Donald Trump suck all the air out of the room?

WE ARE LEARNING —About the other candidates. America is watching how the others respond and that is helping us sort them out. There are good reasons why Trump is surging so the candidates that criticize him do so at their own peril.  Watch them fade and watch those who learn from Trump rise in the polls.

—America wants a fighter.  Some one not only to fight for us but to fight against the left and the liberal media.  Trump has exposed a tactic they use to get rid of people that are a threat to them.  They take a controversial remark (usually out of context), hype it up, express phony outrage, and then call for a resignation.  It is surprising how often it works with wimpy republicans but Trump is having none of it.

—America wants business as usual in DC to end.  The biggest cheers for Trump come when he fights the establishment of both parties. Our country is in a very bad place right now.  We are broke, weak, vulnerable to attack, losing freedom daily, and our power and influence in the world is all but gone.  All because Obama wanted it that way, and no one in Washington had the will to stop him. The House is now controlled by the GOP and they still won’t stop Obama! I hope the republican leadership is watching how people are responding to Trump.

So, in conclusion, with all this good stuff being said why is it that Trump will not be the nominee?  Well, if the above list of problems doesn’t do him in then this last problem will.  Donald Trump (and his ego) think he is leading the polls because we like him.  That is not true.  He is leading the polls because we like what he is doing.  What we really want is for one of those other guys (the ones we do like) to learn from what Trump is doing and start doing the same thing. Trump can’t win this election, but there are about 5 or 6 others that can. I hope and pray that they are watching closely and getting the message.
